Best 5 excuses we’ve heard for not exercising – Part 2

Have you made an excuse to not exercise this week? With our busy schedules it’s all too easy to say: “I’ll do double exercise tomorrow” only to find that tomorrow never really comes, and that that one day break becomes several.

Whether you want to bulk up or simply just get fit, making a decision to exercise is a commitment and requires motivation to keep-going and not give up the first time you don’t feel like it.

We’ve compiled another 5 of the best excuses for not exercising that we’ve heard. Have you used any of these?

“I’m not fat”

Even if you have an enviable figure, it doesn't necessarily mean you are fit? Do you actually know what's going on inside your body?

Exercise isn't just for people trying to lose weight. Looks and appearance are only skin-deep, and thin people can still have a high body fat percentage.

Exercise can help maintain your looks, but it does so much more as well. It maintains and improves your overall health and comes with many added benefits such as; better sleeping, reduced risk of illness, improved memory function and immune system, great posture, strong bones, flexibility and an increased overall sense of happiness.

Not everyone who exercises has to, or even wants to get pumped-up and ripped.

So, no matter what your shape, everyone needs to get fit. Time to ditch this excuse.

"I travel a lot on business"

Really? You're still making this excuse these days?

Even if you're travelling, there are still exercises that you can do in your hotel room if your hotel doesn't have a gym.

Stretching, arms exercises, push-ups and sit-ups are all easily done in slightly confined spaces.

And with the explosion of online workouts, there really is nothing to stop you.

“I don’t know how to exercise”

If you can put one foot in front of the other and walk, you can exercise.

Not everyone likes the gym, fact! And exercise is more than just going to the gym and pumping iron for several hours each day, every day.

From household chores, to walking, to dancing and yes going to the gym, these days it’s easier than ever to find some form of physical activity that will suit you and more importantly that you will like.

So, if you’ve decided you need to do a bit more exercise, why not think of it as an adventure of discovery and find out what you do like and what you don’t like.

Making a decision, pressing ‘start’ and doing something is the hardest part, but it does get easier.

“I can’t afford the gym”

Gym membership can be costly, but exercise doesn't have to cost the earth.

Taking a brisk 30 minute walk outside in the fresh air can work wonders for mind and body, and it’s free.

Or you can buy some simple equipment such as hand weights, resistance bands, stability ball and use some of the many free or affordable exercise programs on line, on YouTube or Netflix.

You could maybe forego your daily double mocha-choca-latte-cino and use the money you save to go to a couple of exercise classes each week, if you don't want to exercise alone.

"Exercise isn't fun"

Maybe that’s just because you’ve been doing the wrong exercising?

Exercise encourages your body to release endorphins, endorphins make you happy.

So, if you’re not enjoying exercise, switch to something else.

There’s no hard-written law that says: “Thou must go to the gym, there is no other exercise other than this.”

Find something you do enjoy. (See point about “I don’t know how to exercise”)

Exercise can be any physical activity that you do to improve your health and fitness exercise and can be anything from archery to Zumba.

Of course, here at Combat Arts, martial arts is our cup of tea and we specialise in training mature adults (over 40s) who want to get back in shape and regain their ‘mojo’. (Read our article ‘The secret to getting in shape that other over 40s are keeping close to their chests!’)

Our training programmes are martial arts (authentic and real) but they are definitely NOT about the fight.

It’s about your own training, your body and your mentality.

We use the very best protocols and techniques from some of the best martial arts in the world including Thai Boxing, Pencat Silat, Kali and Jeet Kune Do (JKD) to:

- help you learn how to train yourself

- help guide you to your best shape ever

- give you back your power, focus and intensity

If you’re over 40 and want to get back in shape, don’t use any of these tired old excuses. Combat Arts might just be what you are looking for.
