The secret to getting in shape that other over 40s are keeping close to their chests!
As you grow older, and your responsibilities increase, it’s easy to get out of shape and neglect your health which is your freedom to live a life that you have reason to value.
But, but, but. There always seems to be an excuse not to, but your true feelings always have a habit of rising to the forefront of your thoughts.
“I’m over 40, I’m unfit, I hate the gym and I’m running out of time!”
Slouched on the sofa again after a hectic day, feeling a bit tired and a bit ‘tired of being tired, I go through the same old thoughts and feelings:
- This wasn’t in the plan
- How did I get this out of shape? I feel so flabby and unfit!
- I don’t even feel like a man some days
- I need to do something, but what?
- I’ve tried the gym before – several times. Each time I try in the hope it would be better or more enjoyable, maybe even pleasant, but it still bores me and the thought of it makes me wince
The same thoughts circling round and round, but now I’m the wrong side of 40, time’s running out.
My job doesn’t help either. My stress levels have rocketed over the last few years and although I have a decent income, no one is safe anymore, especially if you’re the wrong side of 40.
These younger guys seem to have more energy and drive as well as being in good shape!
I remember being like that – feeling strong, buckets of energy, focused and ready to take on the world.
I want to feel like that again. It’s time to take action. It’s now or never!
Sound familiar?
That’s exactly how one of our clients, John (not his real name), felt.
Once he realised he needed to do something rather than nothing he began searching.
Searching for something interesting, that would make him feel stronger, more robust, more capable and, to some extent, more manly again.
At the same time, he didn’t want to get hurt at a boot camp, or be the oldest, most unfit guy (and possibly the only guy) in the aerobics class, and let’s face it lycra is not a good look!
John had always wanted to give martial arts a try. Just to see what it was like, to be able to handle himself better and feel more confident, both in the office and walking along the street.
The rise in popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) highlighted the athleticism of both sports and though John didn’t want to enter the ring he knew there must be someone knowledgeable who could train him and help him get back into shape.
His search led him to Gordon, owner and founder of Combat Arts, who understood his plight. Gordon had worked in advertising and sales for many years and had researched how to stay fit, strong and agile over 40 for many years. Gordon’s passion for martial arts led him to discover that many elements could be adapted to suit the demands of the 40+ ambitious individual.
Stories like John’s are one we hear a lot at Combat Arts. A mature man wanting/needing to get back into shape (before it’s too late) but is bored with a gym, who has a stressful job and is time short, who is well aware that the clock is ticking but is really unsure where to turn to get the right help, support and guidance.
Combat Arts specialises in mature adults training.
It’s martial arts (authentic and real), but it’s definitely NOT about the fight.
It’s about your own training, your body and your mentality.
Using the very best protocols and techniques from some of the best martial arts in the world including Thai Boxing, Pencat Silat, Kali and Jeet Kune Do (JKD) to:
- help you learn how to train yourself
- help guide you to your best shape ever
- give you back your power, focus and intensity
You will be challenged, but always safely and in a controlled manner.
If you’re over 40 and want to get back in shape, this might just be what you are looking for.
