Top 5 tips for avoiding over-indulgence this Christmas
It’s that time of year again where office parties, parties, family get-togethers, festive lunches, etc., all play havoc with the last 11 months of keeping fit and eating healthily. We can all succumb to over-indulging at this time of year, but if you want to keep your health and fitness levels on track, you need to know these five top tips:
TIP 1 – Drink water
Drink half a litre of water half an hour before you go out to the party, dinner, etc., this fills you up and stops that tendency to overeat when everything looks so lovely and tempting.
TIP 2 – Train like it’s January
By increasing your training efforts throughout December means you can be smug at the dinner table and, even better, January won’t feel like an uphill battle for five weeks as you battle to get back to where you were in November.
TIP 3 – Remember the supplements
Don’t make excuses not to during December. Whether it’s greens, alkalines, vitamins, minerals or any combination remember to take your supplements. That way you can support your body and body system whilst indulgence is all around.
TIP 4 – Remember who you are
You train, you’re conscious of what you eat and drink. Be sensible and don’t spoil all your hard work by forgetting and sabotaging your goals by trying to fit in with the herd.
TIP 5 – Keep a diary
By keeping a diary of what you eat and drink over the festive period will create a conscious consumption. It could just be the nano-second you need to keep you on track and not feeling guilty over the five desserts you had, that will now take at least five sweaty gym sessions to burn off just one!
BONUS TIP – Eat slowly
This mindfulness tip of eating slowly, being the last to start and the last to finish, will help you savour every mouthful but also help you know when you’re full.
We know Christmas is a time for letting your hair down and enjoying yourself. We’re not saying don’t, we’re just advocating that you’re more consciously aware so you don’t spend the next 11 months working it off.
One final thought as the festive period kicks in: don’t be like the rest, the usual ‘New Year, New You’. We all know that never works.
