Your key to success: 100 percent

American basketball player and coach, John Wooden said: “Give me 100 percent. You can’t make up for a poor effort today by giving 110 percent tomorrow. You don’t have 110 percent. You only have 100 percent, and that’s what I want from you right now!”

All too often we hear that you need to be 100 percent ‘in’ or don’t bother. That you only get results when you are 100 percent committed.

You know the mantras.

But does it add up for you? Does it make sense? Does it resonate with where you are in your life right now?

In today’s world and in our lives we have different pressures, demands and circumstances pulling on us and sometimes 20, 40 or 70 percent is all we have to give, and can just be enough to get by.

But do you want to just get by?

Running on empty?

Sometimes, we just don’t feel we have 100 percent available as other things are taking up too much of our time and energy.

So what do we do?

We give a percentage we think is acceptable and manageable. Be it to your boss, to work, to relationships, to exercise, sometimes even to life.

The trouble is, anything less than 100 percent simply doesn’t work.

And the fact that you are not 100 percent, fully committed shows.

Let’s say you give a 75 percent commitment to your job. The issue is what part of your job is the missing 25 percent?

Is it the absolute crucial 25 percent that may not appear as a problem right now, but could cause everything to collapse a few months down the road?

Or do you just measure the job on the basis it is only done at 75 percent effort?

Unless you give 100 percent, it’s impossible to measure, regulate and administer the level of commitment accurately and usefully.

Here’s an insight that might help you stop and refocus on why giving 100 percent or nothing is so valid and valuable.

The philosophy of 100 percent

100 percent means fully committed, engaged and active.

Whatever you are doing, 100 percent means you do whatever is necessary to get the desired result. You give it time, effort, skills, focus and whole-hearted devotion until it’s done.

At Lifestyle Combat Arts training, being 100 percent ‘in’ does not mean doing more than you can do.

It means being fully present, fully engaged, fully focused and taking training seriously.

Every session, both small groups and personal 1-2-1 training, starts with a ritual to let students become present, leave the day behind them and prepare themselves to be fully 100 percent committed to their training session.

Why do we do this?

Because it gives them fast results in their skills, mindset and attitude. Not only in their training, but is also carried over into their lives – at work, socially and within their relationships.

You either give 100 percent or you don’t give at all, it’s that simple.

If you want to be able to give 100 percent to everything you do, why not contact us and enquire about training? Contact Combat Arts now to book.
